What happens when a client doesn’t want the “ideal” brows?
As permanent makeup technicians it’s our discretion whether we will tattoo something that is not perceived as normal when it comes to eyebrows. Many women have been pencilling their brows for decades, they’re used to how they look and they don’t want change, they would just love to not have to worry anymore and perhaps their eyesight isn’t what it used to be so are finding it difficult to do every morning.
Let me share sues story
Sue came to see me all the way from Bournemouth, she had no natural eyebrows due to years of over plucking and had been pencilling them in for over 30 years. Sue walked in with her brows pencilled in so I could see how she wanted them tattooed, they were one thin straight line starting form the middle of her eye.
They weren’t the usual shape and style a brow should be as they weren’t in line with the measurements of her face. I explained to sue how eyebrows should sit.
sue reluctantly let me show her and draw them on using her face measurements, as soon as she saw them it was a straight “NO” she started tweaking them back to how she wanted them I would tweak them again.
After a while of going against each other I had to tell her I couldn’t tattoo what she wanted, I understood that it was her face and it’s what she was used to but I just couldn’t do it! Sue was really disappointed and we sat there for a while before sue said “what about if we do this” and changed them slightly. We then started to tweak her brows with each other instead of against each other until we found a style that sue was happy to wear and I was happy to tattoo.
Sues brows are still not how the “ideal” brows should be but they are her! They’re closer to what she had been drawing on for the last 30 years and how she was used to seeing herself, she didn’t want change, she just wanted the convenience of not having to do them every single day!
seeing sues reaction to her tattooed brows made me so happy that I’d decided to do them for her, she loved them! They’re saving her so much time in the mornings and she now doesn’t have to worry about them rubbing off ever!!
